Coach House Derby wrap-up

Two qualifying derbies were held July 25th and August 22nd. Those that participated enjoyed the competition and the opportunity to get out some place other than their own land!

First and foremost, we want to thank Kate and Katie Whaley for all their hard work and opening their farm for the events. We also wish to thank the many that volunteered to help make the days successful.

Both days had beautiful weather, were run with excellence, and the courses were challenging, yet a lot of just plain enjoyment to drive the cones and obstacles! Unfortunately, the derbies were affected by circumstances beyond anyone’s control. The pandemic prevented some out-of-state entries, as well as others that did not have navigators making them reluctant to have someone outside of their own home riding inches away. Horse injuries (not at the derbies) kept some from entering. To add insult
to injury, two attendees had truck problems putting a halt to their participation.

As you may recall, our original plan was to qualify by successfully finishing the first two derbies, with the final derby to compete for the prize money from entries awarding first, second and third place of each division. After the completion of the second derby we ended up with two in the Single Horse division, three in Single Pony, and one in Mini-horse.

After some discussion, the remaining competitors came to the consensus to not hold the final derby scheduled for October and instead to total their scores from the two derbies. The winners are:

Single Horse
1st Place: Kelsey Ley
2nd Place: Kim Moore

Single Pony
1st Place: Kathy Gilbertson (second pony)
2nd Place: Pam Gaston
3rd Place: Kathy Gilbertson (first pony)

VSE
1st Place: Paula Simmons
